The color of Corten steel is orange-brown and is caused by a natural layer of rust. Another name for Corten steel is weatherproof steel: weather conditions have a positive influence on the material.

Corten steel is a metal alloy consisting of iron with added copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel and chromium. When the material is released into the outside air, it becomes covered with a protective layer of rust over time. This natural layer of rust provides protection against further corrosion. This leads to a long service life of the bases.

·Products should be unpacked immediately upon receipt to prevent moisture from accumulating between the packaging and the product. This can lead to uneven rust spots.

·The products come without a layer of rust. The rusting process on Corten steel takes about 4-5 months, depending on the weather conditions.

·Rust can be removed by applying Owatrol. This is a penetrating rust inhibitor that forms a protective layer against rust. Owatrol protects the base and prevents the Corten steel from discolouring.

·During the rusting process, rust water can be released from the product.

·We advise against using Corten steel within 2 km of the coast.

·Clean annually by spraying off coarse dirt with tap water.
